  29. REQUIREMENTS:
  30. ============

  32. Various modes  require  different  hardware  and memory. If the driver's
  33. hardware and memory  requirements  are  not met at load time, the driver
  34. will exit to DOS  and  report  an  error.  This error will also occur if
  35. the card's monitor configuration  is  incorrect (i.e. card is configured
  36. for a PS2 monitor and the selected resolution is higher than 640x480).

  38. Please note that mode  65H  (1024x768/16  paged  type) is not supported.
  39. Instead, mode 55H (1024x768/16 planar type) is supported. V3 VGA Wonders
  40. do not support mode 55H. A V3 VGA Wonder card is identified by having V3
  41. as the first two characters in the ROM version label. If this resolution
  42. is required and you own a  V3  VGA  Wonder,  ATI  has a hardware upgrade
  43. program in place. Please contact ATI Customer Support for details.

  47. INSTALLATION:
  48. ============
  49.  
  50. Before proceeding through  the  installation steps, configure Windows 3.1
  51. to use the Microsoft VGA driver.
  52.  
  53. 1)  Exit Windows (not a DOS box).
  54.  
  55. 2)  Change to your Windows directory (CD).
  56.  
  57. 3)  Place the ATI Windows 3.1 Display Driver Disk into drive A:. Drive B:
  58.     may be used but is not recommended. The Windows 3.1 Setup program may
  59.     behave inconsistently when using drive B:.
  60.  
  61. 4)  Type "SETUP" at the DOS prompt.
  62.  
  63. 5)  Select Display - "Other (Requires disk provided by a hardware manufact.."
  64.  
  65. 6)  Select the desired screen resolution and press Enter. Setup will copy
  66.     files from the diskette into your Windows directories.
  67.  
  68.     Setup may ask if you  wish  to  KEEP or REPLACE the specified driver.
  69.     Choose REPLACE by pressing ESC. This  choice  will appear if you have
  70.     installed an older ATI driver  with  the  same  file name previously.
  71.     If you are  presented  with  this  choice  AFTER this installation is
  72.     completed  (by  choosing  a  different  ATI  driver selection later),
  73.     choose KEEP by pressing ENTER.

  75.     Setup may ask for some  Windows  diskettes.  In  this case, enter the
  76.     drive that contains the ATI driver disk  (i.e. A:) so Setup continues
  77.     to use this disk.

  79.     An error message may appear  indicating  that there is a problem with
  80.     drive A: during the file  copying  process  (such as VGALOGO.LGO). If
  81.     this occurs, press ESC  twice  (after  each error box appearance) and
  82.     enter the drive  that  contains  the  ATI  driver  disk when asked by
  83.     Setup.

  85. 7)  When  Setup  is  complete,  type  "WIN" at the MS-DOS prompt to start
  86.     Windows 3.1.

  90. Notes - VGA based drivers:
  91. =========================

  93. The following drivers contain support for V3 VGA Wonder cards:
  94. . 640x480/256 Small & Large font (512K)
  95. . 800x600/16  Small Font (256K)
  96. . 800x600/256 Small & Large font (512K)
  97.  
  98. For windowed DOS sessions, it is recommended that you select "High Graphics"
  99. for the MSDOS and DOS  application  PIF files. It is required if you select
  100. the 1024x768/16 color driver.

  102. The following stock Microsoft drivers can be selected:
  103. . VGA  (640x480/16 color)
  104. . SVGA (800x600/16 color) - except for the V3 VGA Wonder
